Mon 16th January 2023

Hello everyone,

I hope you had a great weekend 😊

Thank you so much for all the beautiful grandparent photographs so far. We will need all photos in for Wednesday 18th January if you would like them included in our grandparent assembly.  Also, if you could send a few words about your grandparent that would be great - see homework from last Monday for details.

Please see below for tonight’s homework:

LITERACY

JOLLY PHONICS - new sound r.

Complete worksheet and practise writing 'r' in Jolly Phonic's Book. Carry out usual Jolly Phonic Activities to help children learn these sounds and form these letters.  Continue to revise and revisit sounds regularly, which we have covered to date to ensure they are retained.  I have attached a Jolly Phonics table below - we have covered down to 'r’

Numeracy

Number 6 – Revision – make the wall of 6 with the rods and discuss how many ways 6 can be made.  Practise counting 6 objects and forming number 6.

READING

Check your child’s bag each night for their reading.  Encourage your child to point at the words as they are read from left to right.  Encourage your child to point out sounds they know.  Encourage them to attempt simple words which have sounds they know, e.g. is, a, in.  Demonstrate to them how you can use sounds to decode words.  Sign reading record book.

-In addition children should now be beginning to recognise and remember some words on sight, e.g. look, here, yes, a, no, not, in, is, can, we, help, you.  Your child has flashcards to help build familiarity with these sight words which they will be meeting in their Ginn reading scheme. Please practise flash cards each night.

WRITING – (do throughout this week)

Resources needed – marker/pencil and paper -

Call out some of the sounds we’ve covered so far and ask your child to write the sound down.  Can they form all the sounds so far?

Practise writing simple 3 letter words.  Ask children to write the sound ‘p’  then ‘a’ and then ‘n’ on their page.  Ensure they write the sounds from left to right.  Once they have written the 3 sounds show them how to put the sounds together to make a word.  Can they hear what the word is when you say them p – a – n ?  Repeat activity using sounds they have learnt so far – can they try to sound them out with you?

E.g. r-a-t / m-a-t / h-a-t / map / cap / ran / man

Enjoy your evening.

Many thanks,

Miss Lynn
