Hello everyone,

I hope you had a brilliant weekend 😊

Please see below for tonight’s homework:

LITERACY

JOLLY PHONICS - new sound d.

Complete worksheet (writing sound and colour pictures) and practise writing 'd' in Jolly Phonics Book. Take care to form 'd' correctly, starting with a 'c' shape. Carry out usual Jolly Phonic Activities to help children learn these sounds and form these letters.  Continue to revise and revisit sounds regularly, which we have covered to date to ensure they are retained.

PHONICS ONLINE – Introduction of new sound ‘d’ by Mr Mc.

Mr Mc begins with some sound flashcards.  Can you say the sounds you know? You don’t know all of them yet.  Next, he plays ‘what’s in the box?’ Mr Mc blends some sounds for you to listen and see if you can hear the word and guess what’s in the box. About 5.20 minutes in Mr Mc introduces our new sound d.  Mr Mc will ask you to say and do things.  Make sure you listen and watch carefully and join in with Mr Mc.  He shows you how to blend to read some ‘d’ words and also demonstrates how to write ‘d’.  Next, he shows you how to segment the word ‘dig’ into 3 sounds to spell it.  Finally, he ends with looking at letters, saying sound and blending sound together to read word.  He challenges you to try reading them on your own (if you can?)

READING – Practise reading your ‘Home’ book. Encourage children to point at words as they read so they are not just using the repetition to recite rather than actually read the words. The repetition breaks on pages 15 and 16 so observe reading closely on these pages. After reading go back over book asking the children to point at certain words on the page. Also practise reading words on the Ginn Flashcard marked 1.1/1.2/1.3/ 1.4.

As extension you could try asking your child to make sentences using the words.  Please note that on the reverse of each card the word appears with a capital letter! Practise sight recognition of capital letter side too!

Enjoy your evening.

Many thanks,

Miss Lynn
