Hello everyone,

I hope you had a lovely weekend 😊

Please see below for tonight’s homework:

LITERACY

JOLLY PHONICS - new sound g.

Complete worksheet (writing sound and colour pictures) and practise writing 'g' in Jolly Phonics Book. Take care to form 'g' correctly, starting with a 'c' shape. Carry out usual Jolly Phonic Activities to help children learn these sounds and form these letters.  Continue to revise and revisit sounds regularly, which we have covered to date to ensure they are retained.

PHONICS ONLINE – Introduction of new sound ‘g’ by Mr Mc.

Click on Link https://video.link/w/YxSMb

Mr Mc begins with some sound flashcards.  Can you say the sounds you know? You don’t know all of them yet.  Next, he plays ‘what’s in the box?’ Mr Mc blends some sounds for you to listen and see if you can hear the word and guess what’s in the box. About 5.20 minutes in Mr Mc introduces our new sound g.  Mr Mc will ask you to say and do things.  Make sure you listen and watch carefully and join in with Mr Mc.  He shows you how to blend to read some ‘g’ words and also demonstrates how to write ‘g’.  Next, he shows you how to segment a word into sounds to spell it.  Finally, he ends with looking at letters, saying sound and blending sound together to read word.  He challenges you to try reading them on your own (if you can?)

READING – New Book ‘Digger’. Look at front of book jacket, discuss illustration and look at Title word ‘Digger.’ Parent and child look through the book, first looking at the pictures to predict the storyline.  Where is the story set?  Who are the characters?  What is the problem in the story? How is it solved? Next, parent reads the book aloud to child.  Parent tracks text with finger as they read it. Find the word ‘Digger’ on each page. Find the question mark and full stop on each page.  What question is asked?                                                                    Also review flashcards – in bag (marked 1.1/1.2/1.3/1.4.) Also start to learn new words on Ginn Flashcards (words marked 1.5)

MENTAL MATHS - Revision of numerals 0-8 Count forward and back from 0 to 8. Parent ask mental maths questions related to numerals 0-8.  For example, what number comes after 7 / before 9 / between 7 and 9? Make number cards.  Hold up number cards 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and ask child to say each number and what comes before / after.

Enjoy your evening.

Many thanks,

Miss Lynn
