Just a little note about Guided reading and how it works:
I plan to listen to pupils' guided reading every Wednesday and Friday each week. I assign some pages in the reading record for the pupils, we prepare these pages in class and I comment on the reading that day.
The pupil should then read these pages to a parent at home and discuss the story / predict what will happen next / discuss meaning of certain words etc. Please don't feel you have to assign reading pages for your child or ask them to read on in the guided reading book. Instead, please encourage your child to read as much as they would like of their independent AR book. Each pupil has an individual target to meet before Hallowe'en.
Many thanks, CMcQuaid
