Maths Week Challenge: The farmer, the fox, the goose and the grain! πŸ‘¨πŸΌβ€πŸŒΎπŸ¦ŠπŸ¦†πŸŒ½

21st Oct 2022

For our Maths Week challenge this morning, our P5, P6 and P7 boys and girls worked in groups to solve the problem of the farmer, the fox, the goose and the grain! It really tested the boys and girls' problem solving skills.

The farmer had to get a fox, a goose and a bag of grain across a river but he could only take one other animal or thing with him at a time. As we all know, a fox will eat a goose if left on its own with it and a goose will eat the grain if left alone with it! The children made their own models of the boat and the creatures to help find the most efficient way of making it across without being eaten or getting wet!

A tricky problem indeed but well done to the four P5 boys who were the first to find a solution! (they were quicker than all the P6s and P7s - wow!!!) πŸ†πŸ‘ Check out the video they made to explain how they did it.

Who said Maths had to be boring!!!
